  1. Lewis would outweigh Dempsey by a mile, and had that powerful right hand. He was also very smart and had an effective jab.

Still, I'm thinking Dempsey would be too much for Lewis. If you watch Lewis-Tyson, you can clearly see how uncomfortable he was in the first round when Tyson came out fast. Of course, Tyson only had one good round left in him, but Dempsey would come after Lewis for several rounds, and in a much more ferocious way. Dempsey was fast, hard hitting and had tons of heart.

I see Lewis on the defensive from the start of the fight. He might put Dempsey on the canvas with that powerful right hand of his, but Dempsey would probably get right back up, and keep on fighting. Dempsey would work his way under Lewis' long reach and hit him from every angle with ripping shots. With his speed, power and determination, there would only be a matter of time before Dempsey had Lewis hurt.

I see this fight ending with a brutal ko.

    Jack Dempsey by ko6.

  2. The number of thumbs down i have seen for some answers here reinforces my belief that some people choose their favorite boxers over simple logical reasoning, people have to realize that dempsey boxed a long time ago when boxing was still a young sport, YES Dempsey was a mean and hard hitter but this time around meanness and hard hits would not do much for him, Lennox was way too big and a lot smarter, stronger and much more technical than Jess Willard, moreover STYLES MAKE FIGHTS and Jack dempsey's style was tailor made for Lennox Lewis, the way i see it this fight probably would not last more than five rounds and it would be a victory for Lennox, anyone who knows boxing knows this, people need to be realistic and stop this hero worship, Dempsey was a great fighter FOR HIS TIME, Lennox Lewis was much more evolved as a boxer, much stronger and technically better than Dempsey ( we all know how Dempsey dealt with technical fighters Cough*Gene Tunney*Cough) this is just fact, unless Dempsey had access to the same tranining and modern facilities that lennox had and added a few more pounds it would be simply Impossible for him to beat Lennox Lewis this is just a fact.

  3. james's answer is ridicolous he even contradicts himself. I agree with Ericktravel all the way here, Lennox, was bigger, stronger,Smarter (in the ring), and technically better than dempsey there would have been no way that Dempsey would have won this fight.

  4. Since Lewis is so much younger then Dempsey I would guess his best would be better then Dempsey's!

  5. Could go either way. Jack Dempsey can punch and Jack is very daring so he will go for it. He can do an Oliver McCall on Lennox but if Lennox can keep the fight on the outside then he can win.

  6. Lennox Lewis is a great guy, an honorable champion with a great jab and outstanding power in either hand, but you guys are putting too much faith in his size.  I like Lennox, but his chin was a glaring problem that a guy like Jack Dempsey would have quickly exposed.  At their best Jack would cut through Lennox like butter and I doubt it would have lasted more than 4 or 5 rounds.

    Dempsey by KO early.

  7. People keep thinking of Jess Willard because of the comparison in size between him and Lewis.  People forget that Jess couldn't fight.  Lennox can fight quite well.   He is simply the best of his kind.  No other BIG man got the job done better.

Dempsey was great but the color line is not the only reason he avoided certain black fighters.   He was a lot more careful than people think.   His "American Hero" image overshadowed the ''draft dodger'' image he suffered earlier.   The truth is that Dempsey was more business and less fighter than most people think.

Many envision "little" Jack chopping down "GIANT" Lennox.   Not even close.  This is One Giant Jack would NOT have any advantage over.   Jack came in with his usual crouching style.  Because fighters have learned so much it only stands to reason that Lewis, the latest of the great champions,  would learn how to negate that style.

Willard never threw uppercuts,  the one punch that is most effective against that crouching style.   The uppercut was one of Lennox' best punch.   It has been proven time and again, that Dempsey can be hit and hurt.   I JUST DONT SEE him escaping a fight without being dazed by a few uppercuts.

We are NOT talking Jess Willard here.   The ONLY thing he and Lennox have in common is size and dimention.   Lewis is a MUCH better fighter in EVERY way.

While Dempsey crouches he would catch Lewis with a few good shots to the jaw.  However, he would not land enough of them to stop Lewis from landing his own uppercuts.  It wouldn't take much.  People don't realize Lennox is a very hard puncher,  MUCH harder than Willard.   The other thing is that Lennox would actually fight back,  something Willard was incapable of doing.

NO ONE can take too many of those uppercuts.  NO ONE who fights in a crouch would be able to avoid many of them.

    Lewis by KO in 4
