Lens Aperture doubt?

I have a 18-55 mm 3.5-5.6 ...but in camera I can adjust upto f22 what is the relation between the one on the lens and in the camera

    The relationship between shutter speed and f/stop is called reciprocity, so for any given lighting situation there are reciprocal settings throughout the full range of f/stops


  2. Ok... you are definitely confused about lens specs. The 3.5 to 5.6 means that is the maximum apertures at the extremes of the zoom ranges. In other words, at 18mm, your lens has a largest opening of 3.5. But you can certainly set it at any aperture other than that, such as f22. The lens, however, will not allow you to set an opening of say 2.8. The same holds true at the other end of the zoom range. At 55mm, your widest lens opening is 5.6, but you can set any aperture greater, (higher number), than 5.6 if you want.
