Lens bring Laszlo Boloni on board
French Ligue 1 side Lens have announced that coach Jean-Guy Wallemme has departed and they have found a worthy replacement for the Frenchman in the form of experienced former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romania-c2990 international, Laszlo Boloni.
President of “Sang et Or”, Gervais Martel announced on the club website Sunday that after Lens’ 2-2 draw against Bordeaux, Wallemme informed the management of his desire to be relieved of his job as the manager of Lens. The club accepted Wallemme’s decision
after some initial consideration and later, chose Laszlo Boloni to take over the reins. Gervais Martel also added that the new coach’s only objective for the remainder of the season would be to keep the club in the French Ligue 1.
The 57-year-old Boloni is an experienced coach and has a decorated time as a player. In 1986, the Romanian won the European Club with Steaua Bucharest and then moved to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 where he had success with Creteil and Orleans. After retiring, Boloni started
coaching and had spells with Rennes and Monaco. He had an even successful time as a coach in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 to coach Belgian giants, Standard Liege and won the Belgian title
in 2009.
Jean Wallemme leaves the Northern France side after two and a half years with Lens. During his time with Lens, Wallemme guided the side to promotion to Ligue 1 in 2009 in his first season and in 2010, improved his credentials further as Lens finished 11
in the Ligue 1. This season, things did not go as well for the Frenchman as many had hoped with Lens lying in 19th place in the table. They have won only 3 games out of the 18 played so far.
Boloni will have a tough task ahead of him as Lens have accumulated only 16 points and are 3 points behind Valenciennes who are on 17th place. Lens next play against Paris Saint-Germain and it is bound to be a difficult task to get a point away
from home, let alone a victory.
