Leo Lim claims Men’s 200m butterfly gold – YMCA National Championship
Leo Lim of Wyckoff-NJ claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on fifth day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Friday, July 27.
With his stupendous efforts, Lim spoiled the party of his fellow swimmers as he showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
The 18-year-old Lim remained almost two-body lengths ahead of his closest swimmer and earned his way to the top of podium for gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 02.39 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Andrew Yunker of Gr. Flint-MI, who was 1.70 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 04.09 seconds.
Yunker was chased by Justin Mehl of Middle Tyger-SC and Sean Higgins of Wilton-CT, who remained involved in a head-to-head swim for third position.
The pair displayed their ruthless efforts in the discipline and finished third in the discipline by producing an identical effort of 2 minutes and 04.94 seconds.
Subsequently, the duo of third position holders was followed by Christopher DePietro of Lancaster-OH, who stayed 0.19 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fifth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 05.13 seconds.
The 18-year-old DePietro was chased by Zachary Perrotti of Suncoast-FL, who remained almost one body length apart and proved his audacity for sixth fastest spot of the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 05.93 seconds.
Seventh position of the distant butterfly discipline was obtained by Sava Turcanu of Hickory-NC, who suffered a loss of 0.12 seconds from his foregoing finisher and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.05 seconds.
Turcanu was chased by Brad Oberg of Middle Tyger-SC, who remained 2.07 seconds behind and finished eighth in the event by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.12 seconds.
Lim received a huge round of applause from the audience for his dazzling form while he said that he would try his best to achieve the same in near future.
