Leo Scullion happy to referee semi-final clash of 2012 World Snooker Championship
Referee Leo Scullion is up to the task and is feeling quite happy and satisfied with his duties as a referee in the mega event.
Scullion refereed in the semi-final encounter of the Championship between the former World Snooker Championship finalist, England’s Ali Carter and the Scotsman Stephen Maguire.
While speaking to the media during the semi-final interval, Scullion said, “It was fabulous, absolutely brilliant; going out there in the one table situation is just so different, you've got so much room, it feels that you can really do your job, what a
fantastic experience.”
The Scottish official added, “I've refereed two finals now and a semi-final at the UK, but to be refereeing the semi-final at the Crucible is definitely the one. The Crucible to snooker is like Wimbledon is to tennis or Hampden back home in Scotland for
the national team or Wembley down here for international matches.”
The referee has been performing his official duties for the past 13 years and has appeared in several important matches of prestigious tournaments like the UK Championship and the World Snooker Championship. The experienced referee supervised the second
penultimate match between Ali Carter and Stephen Maguire where Carter was victorious by the score line of 17-12.
In the game of snooker, referees have an important role as they not only maintain the decorum of the game play as well as the audience so that they cannot trouble the potters with hooting, shouting and unpleasant gestures.
This role even becomes more important in a mega event like the World Snooker Championship where spectators and players from around the world are present there which requires utmost responsibility from the officials, especially the referees.
Meanwhile, the Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan was able to beat the Captain Ali Carter to lift his fourth World Snooker Championship title by the score line of 18-11 in the final clash at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The final match was officiated by the
world renowned snooker referee, Michaela Tabb, who supervised the game brilliantly.
