Out of favour and injury troubled striker Leon Best has signed a four year contract with recently relegated Blackburn Rovers for what is believed to be a fee of more than £3million.
The Championship club released an official statement on their website yesterday which confirmed the arrival of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 international to Ewood Park.
'Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 have this evening completed the signing of Leon Best from Newcastle United.'
'The 25-year-old striker makes the move from the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/North-East-c40078 to the North West for a fee of more than £3m, signing a four-year deal.'
Newcastle also confirmed the signing earlier on their website;
‘The striker, aged 25, has signed a four-year deal at Ewood Park and will drop down a division to try and help fire Rovers out of the Championship at the first attempt’.
Best was born in Nottingham and started his professional footballing career at Southampton in 2004. He also enjoyed loan spells at Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, Sheffield Wednesday, Bournemouth and Yeovil Town during his three years in the south coast. In 2007 Best
secured a permanent move to Coventry City.
Best joined Newcastle United from Coventry in 2010 for a fee of £1.2million. Best managed to score 10 goals in 42 appearances, but had to experience limited playing time due to an injured spell out on the sidelines and the impressive form of fellow strikers
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 and Cisse.
This is probably a good move for the striker, since he was having trouble finding a spot in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew's starting 11. Best is the sort of striker that will suit Blackburn’s physical playing style and should be an ideal target man.
Steve Kean, who is still Blackburn’s manager despite having failed to avoid relegation from the Premier League last season, is looking to add to his squad as he prepares for a return to the top flight. Best looks like the ideal replacement for Yakubu, who
is set to leave for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/China-c8926 this summer.
Best is Blackburn’s second signing of the season, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Murphy being the first to arrive from Fulham earlier this summer. Best will wear the number 9 shirt as he hopes re-ignite his career and lift the Rovers back to the Premier League.
