Leon Camier of Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team dejected at losing Silverstone podium – WSBK news
Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team rider Leon Camier is unhappy to miss out on a podium position at the 2011 World Superbike Championship Silverstone event.
The Brit was hindered by problems during the raceday at his home event.
After spending an unfortunate raceday, he sustains his sixth position in the 2011 World Superbike Championship. Camier’s compatriot Leon Haslam of BMW holds the fifth place in the championship.
Camier said, “I'm just obviously so disappointed and really sorry for all the fans out there that came to support us. I really thought a podium or two was on the cards for definite. I felt really strong in the first race, made up a load of places and was
starting to think about passing Laverty for second when we had an issue with the bike.”
The former British Superbike champion was having a good race weekend until the raceday which brought difficulties for him. The start to the second race was not favourable for the British rider.
For a moment in the race, he was able to challenge Eugene Laverty fighting from third position in the race but a technical fault in his Aprilia RSV-4 halted his pace and dropped him to the end of the riders pack in the race.
Camier added, “I kept going and I know the fans were cheering me on every time I went past so thank you to them! Second race, start went well but had no grip at the end.”
The Brit explained after the tyre issue struck him and resulted in a loss of pace, he was incapable of retaining his race line. Even after pushing to the limit, he was not moving ahead in positions and made a mistake during the race. Finally, he was able
to finish at fifth place at his home event.
His frustration mounted as he lost the podium after he finished the raceday. Though he was third on the starting grid but problems worsened the day for him.
His teammate at Aprilia Alitalia, Max Biaggi was also running for a seat at the podium but he could not finish better than fourth in race two. In race one, he faced a bent brake lever that held him off from a good performance.
