Leon Haslam to ride BMW in the 2012 MotoGP season – MotoGP news
World Superbike rider Leon Haslam is looking forward to ride BMW’s MotoGP machine in the 2012 season.
The chief of BMW Motorcycle Division, Hendrik von Kuenheim shared some views about the plans of company to get into the MotoGP during his visit to the Qatar’s race.
There have also been words speculated about the making of a MotoGP bike at the BMW factory workshop, including its information gathering on the Marc VDS Suter project, based on the S1000 RR with World Superbike specifications.
Bernhard Gobmeier the BMW World Superbike boss said that on having the S1000 RR they were keen to compete in motorsports and their decision was WSBK.
“We have a long-term contract with Alfa Racing, but the workshop is very large so there would be enough space for something else. It would be necessary to upgrade the engine,” he said.
Gobmeier also revealed that their decision for giving a pause to MotoGP entry could change as there is plenty of space for another project to be placed.
“BMW have never won the F1 title but, if you ask people around the world, we produce some of the sportiest cars on the road. Given that, it would be logical to never see a BMW in MotoGP. But there are always influences and factors that could change
the decision,” he added.
Leon Haslam has experienced racing in 125cc, 250cc and 500cc GP races, but now he feels a return to the races would be preferably on his own terms. As Haslam has had option to shift to MotoGP in past but needs to have a competitive package for the
race.
For the present BMW is showing interest to enter MotoGP but the considering the bike, it is one of the most important factors to win and with the present engine BMW will not risk to enter on that note. Yet Haslam is not sure about entering the MotoGP
but all the things being in process feels good from his aspect.
As this running season is last for the 800cc era and from the 2012 MotoGP season 1000cc will again come alive. This change can provide good chances for the entry of a new team, as facility new team get to run with nine engines instead of six engines.
It is to provide sufficient time for the team to develop enough durable engines to with stand the pressure of the race. There are also Claiming Team Rules that allow a new team to use production components in their racing engines.
It also includes that CRTs can use 12 engines and an additional fuel capacity relaxation. Ezpeleta told BMW that they cannot enter the MotoGP in 2012 season, as Dorna is keeping a sharp eye on company intending to enter MotoGP through a backdoor as
CRT.
