Leon Margules: The corner man’s intervention was legal during Molina-Kirkland bout - Boxing News
Leon Margules, promoter Carlos Molina, the former WBO NABO light middleweight champion, came forth the media to clarify their stance and said that as per law the entrance of the corner man in the ring was legal since as per his knowledge the associate entered
the ring on confirming that the round has ended.
Carlos Molina and James Kirkland collided in front of a packed Reliant Arena situated in Houston, Texas, United States. The co-headline 12-round skirmish had James WBC Continental Americas light middleweight gold on the line whereas the skirmish between
Erik Morales and Danny Garcia with vacant WBC light welterweight gold up for the grabs, headlined the pay-per-view.
The bout between Carlos and James ended in a controversy when Molina stood up from a brutal jab thrown by James. Molina recovered from the powerful jab quickly and was ready to continue the bout.
At the very moment the bout-referee, Jon Schorle, who was announcing the 10-count went towards the judges and ordered to halt the bout on the grounds that Molina be disqualified since his corner man illegally entered the ring.
A closer look at the footage revealed that when Jon was at the fifth or sixth count, one of Molina’s men entered the ring but immediately went outside on knowing that he has made a mistake.
The decision raised much fuss since Molina and camp were not happy at the controversial ending. It is this reason why in a recent press conference, Leon shed light on the ambiguous decision and appealed the Texas commission, the bout regulator, to convert
the disqualification into a no contest decision.
As per the details, Leon while explaining the rules of the authority said, “The moment Carlos Molina got to his feet, the round was over. In Texas, and as far as I know everywhere else in the United States, there is no standing eight count in the case of
a knockdown at the end of a round. Once the fighter stands up, the round is over. Therefore, Carlos’ cornerman was correct to enter the ring after his fighter stood up because the bell had already rung, and it was Referee Schorle who was incorrect to issue
an eight count.”
It must be kept in mind that Jon decided to declare the bout as a disqualification when he informed the ring side judges that since Molina’s corner man entered the ring when his 10-count was ongoing, a disqualification is possible.
The situation is now clear and Molina and his men are deciding to file an official petition for an immediate rematch in World Boxing Council. At the moment James has retained his gold via disqualification.
