Leon Osman is set to miss six more weeks for Everton
Everton midfielder Leon Osman is expected to miss six more weeks of football after receiving a further diagnosis on his ankle, following an operation.
The player underwent surgery to remove a piece of floating bone. Osman picked up the injury during Everton’s win over Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby on 17 October.
Everton went on to win the match 2-0 with goals from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta, but Osman limped off the field at the end of the first half and was substituted.
Osman was expected to recover from the injury after six weeks, but the medical staff believe that it will take a further six weeks before the player can resume training.
Speaking at a press conference, Moyes said,   "We expected him to be out for four to six weeks, but we think he'll probably be out for another six weeks now. He seems fine."
Osman is not expected to return until December and if he is match fit he should feature in Everton’s Premier League match with Manchester City on 20 December or against Birmingham City at Goodison Park on 26 December.
Everton will miss the midfielder’s presence about the pitch. Osman has become a key player for Moyes who has been unlucky with the number of injuries he has had to contend with this season.
The manager has had to play inexperienced players out of position and Tim Cahill has been under pressure to deliver goals in the absence of a number of strikers.
Everton are currently in eighth position and on 13 points in the Premier League. Since the derby win, they have produced some good performances and climbed the table, despite the number of injuries at the club.
Moyes will be hopeful that Osman suffers no further setbacks as a number of players are expected to return to strengthen the team in December.
