Leon Williams to collide with close friend Tony Conquest in a title bout – Boxing News
Leon Williams, the former BBBC British cruiserweight champion, will try to dethrone his best friend Tony Conquest, the current BBBC Southern Area cruiserweight champion, from his title reign, in a 10-round bout which will be held on July 7, 2012.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Olivia Goodwin of Goodwin Main Events. The show will be televised live from York Hall arena in Bethnal Green, London, United Kingdom.
In addition to the above bout, the British fans will also witness Nathan Weise take on Ryan Toms in a 10-round light middleweight bout with vacant BBBC Southern Area light middleweight title up for grabs, headlining the fight card.
Leon and Tony are good friends but this time they will keep their relationship behind and will give each other a tough time of their career. Leon, 28, will enter his 13th career bout. The Streatham London proud has collected four of his total nine wins by
knocking the opponent out cold.
As far as experience is concerned, Leon does have a bit upper hand over Tony. Conquest, 27, has been in a total of eight bouts and boasts an undefeated streak. The young Essex lad has pinned just two of his opponents by knockout and therefore is also overshadowed
by Leon’s knockout ability.
This will be the first time that Tony will defend his newly acquired title. Conquest, also known as ‘Conqueror’, recently grabbed the vacant gold by nailing Toks Owoh via point-base decision.
Leon recently shared his thoughts about how he feels and what strategy he will apply in colliding with Tony. Williams stated, “The plan is to just get my rounds in, punch hard and keep pressuring him and get the win, then say sorry afterwards and I’ll be
the first to buy him a drink. Then I want a shot at getting back my British title. That’s the main goal and that’s where my motivation for this fight is coming from. If it wasn’t a stepping stone to get the Lonsdale belt back where it belongs, with me, I probably
wouldn’t have taken the fight.”
The bout will be an exciting one and Leon will try his level best to not only grab the title but also gift Conquest his career’s very first loss. The pay-per-view is being dubbed as ‘One More Round’ and the tickets for the show are available on sale.
