Route Masters don't even exist anymore. So much for the "modern, go ahead, we don't do bland" Olympic logo.. sorry, but it doesn't come anymore bland that Leona Lewis and David Beckham on top of a London Bus.. lord, 4 years to go and I'm cringing already.

  1. I think you're a little too harsh.  But I'm not British.  I watched the Olympics ob television in Hong Kong and folks around me, particularly women, were thrilled to see Beckham.

To me, it seems the only way to respond to the fightening precision and large scale of the Chinese ceremonies is to do something funny and light and individualistic.  I mean, let's hear it for individualism!

That being said, it did suck a little.

  2. That's crazy.  Leona Lewis has released one album.  What makes anyone think that she will even be relatively famous by 2012?

  3. New does not necessarily mean better.

Anything with Jimmy Page in it will ALWAYS be fresh.

Each new generation discover Zeppelin, they are the cutting edge, they have just been on it for 40 years.

  4. All this fuss over the olympics. What about the real issues of this structure going up. lots of people having to move from an area that they have lived for a long time, buisness having to be uprooted, community allotments being closed down.

So called re-generation of an area usually means development that does not have the locals interest at heart. Waste of money just like the dome that people seem to have forgotton about.

  5. I guess that is what is called "sticking to budget"

I remember the Millennium celebrations when on tv we saw events from around the world. The best the UK could do was have the queen sailing down the river to a background of fireworks, it was laughable.

We need to hire the same production team that did the Beijing opening ceremony.

  6. You've got that right ... surely we can come up with something a bit better than that ... the Chinese used computer images to spice up the opening ceremony.  On our budget we might have to artificially enhance the whole thing.  We could do the sprints/ swimming etc on the XBox to save money .

  7. I think the British people should hold an Olympic forum and then lots of people can put through their creative ideas. We should all have a vote, send it to the Olympics committee and they can pick out the best ideas. Maybe we can avoid blandness and so forth in the future.

  8. And what's wrong with showcasing Britishness in China? Whether you personally like them or not, they are generally accepted as a 'safe' face to represent Britain. The Route Master bus - known and recognised the world over as quintessential London. Jimmy Page - one of the best rock guitarists ever, and member of one of the greatest rock groups in the world. David Beckham - world class footballer and past captain of the England football team (born and raised in London) who played a key role in bringing the Games to London. Leona Lewis - erm......

  9. Hey, but I've heard that the upcoming band "The Rolling Stones" might be ready  to play a big stadium by 2012.

  10. Just be glad that this communist farce is now over and let's hope that ALL the political prisoners sent to 're-education' camps will be released now that the ignorant watchers and supporters have had their sick disgusting fill of 'sport'.

  11. Talentless people and a clapped out 'bus, that just about sums it up !

  12. What,no Cliff Richard or Elton John.Where are the Pearly Kings and Queens.

  13. Morris Dancers are what they need. I cant stand Leona Lewis and David Beckham well enough said

  14. Pretty much says it all!

  15. It could be worse, Boris Johnson could be driving the bus :)
