Leonard Bundu to defend his EBU welterweight gold against Antonio Moscatiello - Boxing news
Leonard Bundu, the current EBU (European) welterweight champion, will defend his gold against the surging fellow country man Antonio Moscatiello, in a 12-round encounter which will take place on March 23, 2012.
The event is promoted by Mario Loreni of Boxe Loreni and the ring for the bouts will be setup at Fair Palasport EIB situated in Brescia, Lombardia, Italy. The event will be co-headlined by the non-title bout between Matteo Modugno and Adnan Buharalija.
Bundu was initially scheduled to defend his gold against Italy’s number three welterweight Gianluca Branco. Unfortunately Branco had to quit the engagement after receiving a rib injury during the sparring session. After careful deliberation and the lobbying
done by Antonio’s manager, Mario and his staff rearranged the bout between Bundu and Antonio.
Bundu, 37, has been in a total 27 bouts and came out victorious in a total 25 bouts. He has never lost even a single bout but did collect two draw decisions against Daniele Petrucci and Luciano Abis. Leonard, also known as ‘The Florence of Africa’, has won
many titles and resides at country’s number one position.
Leonard has proudly held WBA Inter-Continental welterweight, EBU-EU (European Union) light welterweight, Italy welterweight, and even the Mediterranean IBF welterweight title. Leonard is a resilient brawler and does not undergo the knockout brawling style.
It is this reason why he has collected just seven of his total wins by knockout.
Bundu wears his opponent out bit by bit and then goes in for the kill by either flattening the opponent on the ring floor or by collecting a decision in his favour. His opponent for the Friday night extravaganza, Antonio, also known as the ‘Big’, is does
not have many facets in his favour.
Antonio will enter in his career’s first ever championship bout and has been in a total 13 bouts. The 29-year-old belligerent has never lost even a single bout and this time he will not only go for the gold but will also strive hard to defend his undefeated
streak. In addition this will be the first 12-round bout Antonio is participating in.
Antonio’s chief handler, Cherchi, while sharing his thoughts about his man said that Moscatiello deserves to be in a title bout and he has made his stance clear in the whole division by generating an undefeated win streak.
At the moment, Leonard has the odds in his favour and he will definitely defend his gold for the second consecutive time unless and until Antonio throws something surprising in the bout since a skirmish cannot be won by words alone.
