Leonard Ellerbe hits back at Bob Arum, says Mayweather is not scared of Pacquiao – Boxing news
The chief of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, has responded to Bob Arum’s statement in which he stated the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather, is scared of his fighter, Manny Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current
World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion).
The chief of Golden Boy Promotions, Bob Arum, recently claimed that Mayweather is scared of Pacquiao’s right hand and that is why he does not want to set up a clash with the Filipino star. However, Ellerbe reckons Arum is just using Floyd’s name to promote
his fighter.
Ellerbe told Fighthype.com, “It’s absurd. He’s just trying to promote his fighter in any way he can by using Floyd’s name. “
Mayweather fought Juan Manuel Marquez, who is currently set to take on Pacquiao in their highly-anticipated on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, back in September 2009 and he secured a unanimous points’ victory over him.
Ellerbe insisted Arum at that time was claiming that Marquez will be a no match for Mayweather and now when Marquez is fighting his Pacquiao, he is saying exactly opposite to it.
He said, “For example, look at what he said about Marquez when Floyd fought him compared to what he’s saying about Marquez now. In 2009, Floyd returned after nearly two years of retirement and completely dominated Marquez, who most considered to be the #2
or #3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”
Ellerbe added, “He wants to mislead the fans into thinking that "Marquez is a big test" for his fighter. Two years ago, he said Marquez had no chance against Floyd, but now, two years later, he’s a big test for his fighter.”
Mayweather versus Pacquiao is one of the most eagerly awaited bouts in the sport and Ellerbe also disclosed during his interview that Team Mayweather is now on a look out for setting up a super-fight with Pacquiao, who is currently rated as the best pound-for-pound
fighter in the world.
However, let’s see if these two boxing’s best really sign a contract, as their bout will certainly break all of the grossing records as of yet.
