Leonard Ellerbe thinks Marquez verses Pacquiao 3 will not be a competitive fight – Boxing news
The chief of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, reckons the highly anticipated trilogy bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will not be a competitive fight, as he thinks
Marquez is past his prime now.
The 38-year-old Marquez, who is also known as the Mexican Dinamita, is the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation and The Ring Lightweight World Champion.
Moreover, he is rated as the third best pound-for-pound fighter in the world yet Ellerbe believes he will be able to get past Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion).
Ellerbe stressed Marquez has drastically declined since he lost his battle to the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather, via unanimous decision back in 2009.
Though Ellerbe admitted Marquez is a very thought fighter who likes to give his 100 percent, he said there is a lot of wear and tear on a 38-year-old body.
Ellerbe told Fighthype.com, “In my opinion, I don’t think it’s a very competitive fight at all. Marquez is past his prime. After Floyd easily dominated him two years ago, he’s drastically declined since then. He was life or death with Juan Diaz and he was
life or death with Katsidis before eventually stopping him. He gets hit with any and everything now. He’s accomplished a great deal in his career and he’s a great fighter, but he’s on the other side of his career and he’s taken a tremendous amount of punishment
in his last couple of fights since fighting Floyd. That’s a lot of wear and tear on his 38-year-old body.”
Marquez-Pacquiao 3 is one of the most eagerly awaited bouts of this year and after what happened in their previous two fights, it is fair to say that their concluding fight will certainly be an absolute classic.
However, let’s see if Pacquiao, who is currently rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, can really beat Marquez once again.
