Leonardo Alves Santos Fim grabs Men’s 200m backstroke gold – Jose Finkel Trophy
Leonardo Alves Santos Fim of FIAT/MINAS grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on day one of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday, August 20.
Fim faced strong resistance from his fellow swimmers throughout the distant backstroke discipline but with his impeccable pace, he managed to outsmart his opponents over the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his splendid pace, he remained just a touch ahead of subsequent competitor and clocked a time of 1 minute and 53.99 seconds for gold medal.
His gold winning effort remained 0.11 seconds faster from Leonardo de Deus of CRF/RJ, who secured silver medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 54.10 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Fernando Ernesto Pires Do of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained just 0.21 seconds slower and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 54.31 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Fabio Arikawa Santi of ECP/SABESP, who stayed only 0.24 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 54.55 seconds.
Santi was trailed by Lucas Salatta of CRF/RJ, who was 0.89 seconds slower and secured fifth fastest spot of the discipline by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 55.44 seconds.
Subsequently, Salatta was followed by Andre Schultz of CRF/RJ, who remained only 0.10 seconds slower from his former finisher and made his way to the finishing wall as sixth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 55.54 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Nelson Silva Junior of SERC SAO CAETANO, who stayed three body lengths apart and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 58.18 seconds.
Silva Junior was traced by Arthur Silveira Ramalho of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained 0.07 seconds slower and finished eighth in the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 58.25 seconds.
In addition, Santos Fim was very contented with his title claiming effort and articulated his desire of achieving the same at the superior levels of swimming.
