The Juventus defender’s legal representative has stated that his client is absolutely innocent, and has nothing to admit in the face of accusations of sporting fraud.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056 Bonucci’s lawyer has voiced his client’s innocence, and has stated that the defender has done nothing wrong that will require him to confess in the court.
The Juventus player is currently facing charges of sporting fraud arising from his time at Bari, and the federal prosecutor has requested a ban of three and a half years for the midfielder.
However, Giampietro Bianchi, the lawyer of the Bianconeri playmaker believes that his client is innocent, and is hopeful that he will be able to save his client from any punishment at the hands of the FIGC Disciplinary Committee that is overseeing the proceedings.
Bonucci’s lawyer revealed that they have been offered by the federal prosecutor a down gradation of charge from sporting fraud to failing to report an attempt of match fixing, if the player reveals some new information to support their case.
However, Bianchi was adamant that the Old Lady midfielder has done nothing that he could confess to, and stressed that his client has chosen to risk civil action rather than confess to something that he has not done, or gain support from a lie that violates
morality and ethics.
While talking to Tuttosport, Giampietro Bianchi said:
"The prosecutor offered us the opportunity to move the charge from sporting fraud to simply failing to alert authorities to a potential fix, but only if there were new facts that he was going to admit. Bonucci has not done anything, so what was he supposed
to admit? It is true there would be some risks of civil court action too, but in any case he would never have 'confessed' to anything untrue. It is a moral decision.”
Bonucci’s lawyer has pointed out to inconsistencies and contradictions in the testimonies against his client, in an effort to exonerate the midfielder from all the charges by the Disciplinary Committee of the Italian Football Federation.
Bianchi also revealed that they evaluated the possibility of confession out of respect for Juventus, but maintained that they were not ready to admit something that his client had not done.
