Leonardo De Deus seizes Men’s 200m butterfly title: Day three – 2011 Pan American Games
Leonardo De Deus of Brazil showed his ruthless efforts to the aquatic crowd by seizing the title of Men’s 200m butterfly on day three of the 2011 Pan American Games on Monday, October 17. The event is Long Course meet, which is scheduled at Scotiabank Aquatics Center.
Deus was largely predicted to clinch the title of the distant butterfly event, as he impressed the crowd by demonstrating his overshadowing efforts in the preliminary rounds of the same event.
The Brazilian remained prominent for the gold medal from the start of the race, as he was the quickest swimmer to leap into the water. With his commendable stroke and magnificent strength, Deus overwhelmed frenzy efforts of his opponents, who had their sight-affixed on the title of the IM discipline.
The gold medallist earned an astounding lead of one second from his subsequent competitor, Daniel Lawrence Madwed of USA in the first round of the swim. Deus covered the first half of butterfly playoff in 56.01 seconds as opposed to Madwed’s effort of 57.01 seconds for the same distance.
In the next lap, Deus elevated his efforts to crush hopes of his strongest rival and submitted a time of 1 minute and 26.54 seconds against Madwed’s 1 minute and 27.71 seconds effort. Madwed accelerated his swim in the final-lap, but failed to overpower the efforts of arena’s favourite.
Deus clocked a fantastic time of 1 minute and 57.92 seconds to capture gold medal. On the other hand, Madwed remained only 0.60 seconds slower than him and stepped on the podium for silver medal by submitting an astonishing time of 1 minute and 58.52 seconds.
The third spot of the event was obtained by Kaio Almeida of Brazil, who proved his mettle for the third spot and reported a nice time of 1 minute and 58.78 seconds for bronzed medal.
The session ended after the completion of all scheduled events while the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for their invincible swims after the completion of session.
