Leonardo Mayer beats Adam Kellner 4-6, 7-6(0), 6-1
Argentinean Leonardo Mayer, ranked 156th in the world, came back from one set down to overcome world number 233 Adam Kellner of Hungary in three sets 4-6, 7-6(0), 6-1 in the round of 16 at the Trani Cup in Trani, Italy
on Wednesday. The Argentinean needed two hours and eleven minutes to beat his opponent in a marathon match.
Mayer made a solid start as he broke the Hungarian in the second game of the first set and held his serve in the next game to grab a 3-0 lead. Kellner broke back in the fifth game and held his serve in the next game, equalising
the score at 3-3. The Hungarian broke again in the seventh game and consolidated on it to win the set 6-4.
Kellner and the Argentinean held their serve throughout the second set to take it to a tie-break. Mayer did not lose even a single point in the tie-break, claiming it 7-0.
The Argentinean broke Kellner three times in the third set, dropping only one game to win the set 6-1. The 24-year-old saved two of the four break points he received and won four of the six break point opportunities he created
on Kellner’s serve in the match.
Mayer will play wild card entrant Matteo Trevisan of Italy in the quarterfinals.
Matteo Trevisan defeats Federico Delbonis 6-4, 2-6, 6-4
World number 318 Matteo Trevisan of Italy rallied past world number 200 Federico Delbonis of Argentina in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to proceed to the last eight.
Trevisan broke the Argentinean in the fifth game of the first set and consolidated on it to blaze forward to a 4-2 lead. The Italian maintained his lead throughout the set and won it 6-4.
The Argentinean made amendments in his technique and thrashed his opponent in the second set. Delbonis broke the Italian in the second game and won his next service game to take a 3-0 lead. The Argentinean broke Trevisan again
in the eighth game, clinching the set 6-2.
Trevisan took an early lead in the decider, breaking the Argentinean in the first game and winning his next service game to go ahead 2-0. Delbonis broke back in the sixth game to level the score at 3-3 but he was broken again immediately
to trail 3-4. The Argentinean failed to break back this time, losing the set 4-6. Trevisan bagged 69 percent of the first service points and 32 percent of the first return points in the match. The match lasted for two hours and 21 minutes.
