Leonardo Stocchero and Gianluca Virgenti retain fleet lead of 2012 RS Feva World Championship
Fifth day of the 2012 RS Feva World Championship saw some tremendous sailing performances from the leader board of the fleet as they claim two more bullets to retain the overall top podium position. So far the fleet has finished seven races under moderate
conditions.
Italy’s Leonardo Stocchero and Gianluca Virgenti sailed brilliantly from the start of the fifth day and hit the leading place with 13 points after participating in seven races, including a discard race.
The pair had been in a tussle from the start of the regatta. They finished on second podium place in the first race followed by a seventh finish which brought them down. A fifth position in the third race added to the spice and the tumbled down to lower
positions.
However, after that, the Italian pair bounced back into the regatta and grabbed a bullet to move up in the standings. Despite a third finish in the fifth race, the duo was in strong shape which they proved in the last two races as the clinched two bullets
to compile 13 points.
Ireland’s Robbie King and Josh Atherton managed to secure the second place with 18 points. They might challenge the Italian team in the upcoming days. During their campaign, the Irish duo hit two bullets in early in the event but after that they failed to
make it to the top podium.
