Leonardo de Deus wins Men’s 200m butterfly gold: Day five – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Leonardo de Deus of CRF/RJ won gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on fifth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday, April 28.
Deus showered his expertise in the four-lap butterfly discipline as he destroyed hopes of his challengers and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal.
With his stupendous efforts, he enjoyed a benefit of nearly one body length over his strongest swimmer, Kaio Marcio De Almeida and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 55.70 seconds for gold medal.
His title claiming effort was trailed by Almeida of FFC/RJ, who stayed nearly 0.80 seconds slower from the champion and settled on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 56.51 seconds for silver medal.
Third spot of the discipline was secured by Arthur Mendes Filho of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who stayed almost four seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.78 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Frederico Veloso Castro of CRF/RJ, who remained nearly 0.30 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.02 seconds for fourth position.
Castro was trailed by his teammate, Iran Almeida, who was 0.88 seconds slower from him and ended his sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 01.90 seconds for fifth best spot of the race.
Almeida was trailed by Esteban Enderica of FFC/RJ, who stayed 0.51 seconds behind him and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 02.41 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Leonardo Alves Santos Fim of FIAT/MINAS, who was almost half body length behind him and posted a time of 2 minutes and 02.99 seconds.
Similarly, eighth best spot of the race was secured by Luiz Pedro Ribeiro Pereira of SESI/MT, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 03.64 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all listed events while the winners collected awards and accolades for their furious efforts after the session.
