At the heart of a storm after his negative remarks towards French football, PSG sporting director Leonardo has now tried to justify himself by saying that his remarks were taken out of context
In mid-week, Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, Leonardo, sparked controversy by launching a tirade on French football. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan manager caused a storm when he said that French football lacked a winning culture and also said that the level
of preparedness of players and coaches in Ligue 1 is low.
The Brazilian added more fuel to the fire by saying that the lack of winning culture was the only reason why http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 will lose a place in the UEFA index.
The statements made by the sporting director were certainly too hard to take for the likes of Roland Courbis, Jean-Michel Larque, Remi Garde and Rene Girard with the latter two slamming the Brazilian for his statements.
Before arriving at PSG, Leonardo had an image of a smooth operator and a likable guy. However, the Brazilian’s popularity has declined. From his handling of Antoine Kombouare’s issue to this new issue, Leonardo has definitely made a few enemies.
Conscious of seeing the gravity of the situation, the former AC Milan manager has now chosen to set the record straight. While talking to Canal Plus following his team’s 1-1 draw at the Parc against Bordeaux, the Brazilian said that his statements were totally
taken out of context and criticised media for moulding his statements in a way that gave the world a bad image of him.
“I attended a seminar this week with players’ agents, club officials and some journalists. The objective was to ask why a French team had not won the Champions League. We talked about many things and it is only this one that got out. We do not have the right
to take part of the speech, take it out of context and try to make people react against it. it should be corrected, it is important.”
Nor sure whether clearing this out would really improve his image but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056 certainly has the right to criticise journalists who published only one side of the story.
