Leone Vorster secures Women’s 200m freestyle gold – 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational, Arizona
Leone Vorster of Ford Aquatics-AZ snared gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle at the 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, May 5.
The 24-year-old Vorster, who won the silver medal of Women’s 1500m freestyle earlier, went full throttle in the 200m event. With her commendable efforts and gruelling strategy, she spoiled the party of her challengers and tapped the finishing wall for gold
medal.
She continued her smothering efforts throughout the four-lap discipline and appeared on the wall for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.07 seconds.
The champion was followed by the gold medallist of 1500m event, Alyssa J Anderson of Arizona-AZ, who suffered a deficit of almost three seconds and reached the podium for silver medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.49 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Shannon N Landgrebe of ASU-AZ, who stayed just 0.01 seconds slower from overpowering the silver medallist and posted a time 2 minutes and 06.50 seconds for bronze medal.
The third position holder was trailed by Vorster’s team-member, Christine M Magnuson, who stayed just 1.50 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.00 seconds for fourth position.
Magnuson was trailed by Whitney M Burnett of UFORD-AZ, who was 0.58 seconds slower from the fourth best finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.58 seconds for fifth position.
Burnett was trailed by Margo M Geer of Arizona-AZ, who secured sixth best place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 09.00 seconds.
The 20-year-old Geer remained almost half a second faster from her following opponent, who touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.54 seconds.
Isleta was chased by Lizzy G Luttrell of ASU-AZ, who ended up her swim in eighth place by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 10.68 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders were invited on the victory stand for awards and accolades at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
