Leone Vorster wins Women’s 200m freestyle semi-finals: Day three - South African LC Nationals
Leone Vorster of NTS-NT won the semi-finals of Women’s 200m freestyle on third day of the South African Long Course Nationals in Durban on Wednesday, April 18.
The 24-year-old Vorster demonstrated her phenomenal efforts in the four-lap freestyle discipline. With her immaculate efforts and utter determination, she succeeded in overpowering her strongest competitor over the finishing and earned her way into the playoffs as top contender for gold medal.
Her notable efforts placed her in a full body length lead over her teammate, Karin Prinsloo as she tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 02.12 seconds.
Prinsloo remained nearly 1.66 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in second best place by touching the wall with the effort of 2 minutes and 03.78 seconds.
The 22-year-old Prinsloo was chased by Wendy A Trott of WPA-WP, who occupied third best qualification spot of the race by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.79 seconds.
Trott was chased by Kirsten Lapham of ZIM-ZZ, who stayed nearly half body length behind and emerged on the finishing wall for fourth best qualification spot of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.03 seconds.
Next was the playoff of Men’s 200m freestyle, where Darian Townsend of KZNA-KZ elevated his efforts and proved his eligibility for gold medal by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 47.88 seconds.
His meticulous effort remained nearly one body length ahead of his strongest challenger, Sebastien Rousseau of WPA-WP, who followed him on the victory stand for silver medal by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.69 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Jean Basson of CGA-CG, who finishes his swim in third best place and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.70 seconds.
Basson was trailed by Jay-Cee Thomson of NTS-NT, who settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by posting a time of 1 minute and 51.14 seconds.
Furthermore, the third session concluded after the completion of all planned events in Women and Men’s corner.
