Leonid Fedun believes Valery Karpin is the right man for Spartak Moscow: Russian Premier League news
Spartak Moscow president, Leonid Fedun, has expressed his satisfaction on the club head coach, Valery Karpin, and summed up the Myaso performance in the second round of the Russian Premier League.
The Moscow-based club managed to claim fifth spot on the league table at the end of the second round, but Fedun insisted that the nine-time league champions need to return to winning ways under Karpin.
Reports in Russian had suggested that Fedun has decided to say farewell to Karpin after a series of unsatisfactory results but the Russian Billionaire was forced to change his mind after he saw his club climbing up the league table
in the second round.
Having lost a single league encounter from fifteen league games, Spartak Moscow are enjoying a good run. Fedun revealed that the Svinyi need to stretch their good run in the third league round if they are to fight for a UEFA Champions
League place this season.
“I am pleased with Karpin after the second round. We were eliminated from the European competition which was a big blow for us. We now have a strong emphasis on the domestic championship and getting into the Champions League, a
fundamentally different tournament.” Fedun was quoted as saying
Fedun admitted that the first round of the Russian championship was disappointing for the Russian outfit due to injuries, but admitted that the manager along with the players worked hard in order to alter the situation.
The Russian national went on to lament the Spartachi's early exit from the UEFA Europa League. Spartak suffered a 5-4 defeat against Legia Warsaw on aggregate in the play-off round of the Europa League.
“In the second round, Spartak claimed nearly as many points as all the leaders of the Premier League.  The teams are not far away from us on the league table. If we evaluate the results from the second round of the championship,
I believe we deserve a decent spot.” Fedun concluded.
Spartak Moscow are just two points away from a Champions League spot, which is currently occupied by Dynamo Moscow.
