Question:

Leopard Gecko babies?

My female leopard gecko just laid eggs and she laid them in the water bowl - does that mean my cage is too hot? I heard mixed reviews about people that separate them and others that keep them together. I left mine in the water dish because it seemed like my female knew what she was doing (but she's a first time mother). They were literally RIGHT in the water so I put an extra food bowl I had and put it in the water and carefully placed the eggs inside (I made sure they were still the same way they were laid). Is this okay? Then I put sand around them and moistened it...

  1. Do you provide a humid hide for your gecko? if not that will be why, everywhere else was simply too dry. A water bowl is not an ideal place for eggs, remove the eggs from the mothers tank and place them somewhere more appropriate like a tub filled with slightly damp vermiculite. If you do not have a humide hide already, get one in there for your gecko as soon as you can.

If the eggs take in too much fluid they can easily overswell to the point of bursting, they should just be placed somewhere humid, not wet or overly damp.

The mother has no role in the care of the young, the eggs should be seperated. When they hatch the babies should be placed in a seperate enclosure, in the wild, leopard geckos would prey upon smaller lizards, it's not out of the realms of possibilty that the mother might consume the young.

    Good luck with your eggs!
