Question:

Leopard gecko moth interest?

Ok. I left my wax moth culture next to my geckos while I was doing some cleaning. I turned around and all of the geckos were going wild trying to get the moths through the glass! I moved the moths away as it seemed like teasing. My question is - can they eat wax moths? My adults are pretty good at catching and eating out of tweezers and just wandered if it would do them any harm. Anybody fed them? I wouldn't obviously feed them moths as a main diet and yes I know how to feed geckos a proper diet but they just looked really excited and like they wanted to eat them!

Also while I'm on the subject - what about the beetles from my mealworm culture? I'm just curious. Anything different people have fed their leos?

  1. Yes, you can feed the moths! They move pretty quickly so it can be quite amusing to watch. I'm not sure about the exact nutritional value but i would say to feed them instead of waxworms as an occasional treat, not instead of crickets or another staple.

As for the beetles, you have to show more caution. Again i don't know the specifics about the nutrition, but theses should be fed infrequently - there have been concerns about their hard shell and if they can be toxic - but i have fed them in the past without issue and they actually seemed to be enjoyed.

I've tried feeding my leo all sorts of bugs that you can find online, and their larvae and adult forms.
