Question:

Leopard gecko pregnant?

i have two leopard geckos - one male and one female - and i've had them both kept together since i got them, about two years ago, so they are both about 2 and a half years old.

about a week ago the male started nipping at the female and she is more active and fat than usual. i cant see anything out of the ordinary when i turn her upside down, but its still early days, yeah?

could she be pregnant?

and what do i do about the male - as i said they've been together for a couple of years now, i do have the room for more but i never intended to breed them (i thought the male was a female), and i really dont want to separate them! what do i do about him?

thanks in advance - any other infomation anyone think could be useful would be good too =D

  1. It's very stressful for females to be left forever with a male that wants to breed. i would say it's almost a necessity to separate them.

Caring for eggs is a very labour intensive situation however please not your female leo will lay eggs every season fertilised or not. Even if she isn't around the male she will lay infertile eggs.

  2. Why don't you want to separate them?  There is obviously a dominance issue here that needs to be taken care of, so unless you want the male constantly pestering the female, you need to separate them.

If you don't want to deal with eggs, just freeze them after she lays them.  It's the most humane way to get rid of them.

  3. yeah, i would have to say you should seperate them into a ten gallon each. it will stress her out if she is consantly being mated. when and if you wish to mate them, stick em together for a few days, and then see. she should fatten up, and you should notice her eating more. she will also get white circles on her belly, those are eggs.
