my leopord gecko has been having shedding problems for a couple months now. local pet shops and vets simply said to increase the humidity. tried that and it made it worse or it simply got worse at the same time. now, it is so bad that he is completely white and flakey (looks very dry) and has red spots where he has scratched himself too hard. his eyes are barely open and he is very inactive and will not hunt crickets, he only eats wax worms or crickets that come to him. he really looks like he is going to die and i have a vet appt. but they cant fit him in until mon 8/4. i am very worried about him. any ideas on what the problem is or how to treat it?

  1. have u tried giving him a luke warm bath, does it have a humid hide. what levels are the current humidity at

there's also some spray stuff that some people swear by (ive never used it) its called something like shed easy or easy shed something like that

  2. I used to own a leopard gecko and I have worked with reptiles.  I took care of a leopard gecko with a similar condition to the one you described.  I asked my boss if something was wrong once I noticed that the gecko was pale every time I would feed it.  He said that sometimes if the gecko cannot shed its skin quickly enough it will begin to shed a second layer and therefore take a while to finish the process. It seems as though you have nothing major to worry about. As long as he is eating something he should be okay. If your worried though, get a second opinion from the vet, but I honestly don't believe you have much to worry about.

  3. It sounds like a fungus or a form of dermatitis.

You should change the bedding to paper towels or newspaper while he is sick.

I know its gross but if you rip the back legs off crickets...they are alot slower and easier for a sick animal to catch.

The main thing right now is to keep him fed hydrated and heated....the heat might help with the infection depending on what it is...keep humidity levels normal..if it made it worse when you increased it....if i could see him or if you could send pics i could help more but without seeing it im not really sure sorry i couldnt help more...just make sure you keep him hydrated until you can get him to the vet....as long as he is eating a little bit he should be fine...leos can go quite a while without food.

  4. wat u need to do is let it soak in luke warm water about up to the leopard gecko's knees. Soak him/her for 20 minutes. Then take him out and use a q-tip to gently rub the skin off. It should come out very easily. Please do it asap as leopard geckos only take a day or two to completely shed their skin.

Remember to put a humid hide(box containing spaghnum moss) wet it every day. And your leopard gekco should use it for shedding and breeding.
