Remi Garde’s men scored four goals past underdogs Gazelec Ajaccio to book a ticket to the final of this season’s Coupe de France where they will face either Stade Rennais or Quevilly
A ten-man Gazelec Ajaccio gave a brave performance against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 but it was not enough as Remi Garde’s side breezed past the minnows to set a date with destiny in the final of the Coupe de France.
The game was never going to be a walk in the park for Garde’s charges as Gazelec were largely successful in holding the Ligue 1 giants at bay. Goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528 Rastello played a big part in that as he kept on defying Lyon.
Gazelec attackers complemented their defenders well by attacking the visitors on the break every now and then through some intelligent and incisive play.
However, the complexion of the game changed when Anthony Colinet received his marching orders in the 38th minute for a dangerous and reckless tackle on Lyon’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Lacazette-c4895.
With the numerical advantage, Lyon were always going to dominate the rest of the game as Gazelec’s hopes of emulating their feats against Montpellier and Toulouse from the previous games started fading.
Young Lyon striker Lacazette, scored the first goal of the game after Rastello failed to properly clear a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jimmy-Briand-c18553 shot in the 59th minute.
Les Gones smelt more goals and the ever-reliable Lisandro Lopez scored the second goal for his team in the 73rd minute. Another Lyon academy graduate was to put his name on the score-sheet. Clement Grenier scored his first-ever goal for Lyon with
a hopeful yet excellent volley that keeper Rastello failed to clear.
Lyon put the game further beyond Gazelec when Bafetimbi Gomis scored at the death for the away team to make it 4-0.
Though Lyon gave a good account of themselves and were the superior side for most part of the game, one has to feel sorry for Gazelec who might have had more chances to test Lyon had their player not been sent off.
Throughout the tournament, the third-division side played fearless football and did not really bother much about prestige of other clubs. However, Lyon were always going to be a totally different proposition for the Corsicans.
The result now takes Lyon in the final of the Coupe de France where they will meet either Frederic Antonetti’s Stade Rennais or Quevilly who beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
The final would be Lyon’s second cup final this season. This April, Les Gones play Olympique de Marseille in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue at the Stade de France. Though Remi Garde’s side are not going to lift the Championelle this term, they still
have a great chance of doing the double.
