Les Sherrington makes his comeback in a title bout against Oscar Daniel Veliz – Boxing news
Les Sherrington, the former World Boxing Foundation and Australian super middleweight title holder, is ready to make his comeback after a lapse of almost a year to take on Argentinean Oscar Daniel Veliz in a 12-round bout.
Les and Oscar will clash for the vacant World Boxing Federation super middleweight and vacant IBF Australasian super middleweight titles and the ring will be stretched at Murray Basketball Stadium situated in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. Les is coming
after recuperating from an injury, broken Fibula to be specific, which he received in his last bout against Kashif Mumtaz.
Sherrington, infamous as the Lock & Load, collected a Total Knock Out (TKO) lose in the very first round of his last brawl against Kashif last year in the month of May. The 29-year-old Australian has entered a total 33 times in the ring and came out victorious
in a total 27 skirmishes.
Though he does not possess an impressive knock out ratio, he has his resilience factor which makes him capable enough to beat any opponent. He has collected 17 of his wins by knockout and possesses a kayo percentage of 51.52. Oscar, on the other hand, is
far more experienced when compared to Les.
Oscar, well known as the Escopeta, has been in a total 49 brawls and has won just 29. He has lost 17 bouts and collected two draw decisions. His resume most probably shows the world’s worst knockout ratio that is 10.2% which he secured by collecting knock
out wins over just five opponents.
A bird’s eye view analysis of both men shows that Les heavily overshadows Oscar not only in wins or KO ability but also in the rankings. Les resides at 38th position in world rankings whereas Veliz sits at 92nd position and is even ranked fifth in his home
country Argentina.
In addition, Les is making a comeback he has won Australia’s apex super middleweight title several times and has collected wins over notable names such as Shannon Taylor, Nader Hamdan, and others. The 5-time Australian super middleweight champion will try
his level best to move up in the ranks by collecting his careers first IBF Australasian super middleweight title.
Oscar is not a pugilist to be taken lightly since he has collected a win over Julio Cesar Vasquez and has several times won the South American middleweight title. In addition he also boasts a hefty resume though tarnished with a lot of losses yet reflecting
an experiencing that might come handy against Les. Both men will test each other resilience on March 9, 2012 in a pay-per-view promoted by Joe Pennisi.
