Les Sherrington outwits Oscar Daniel Veliz to grab a unanimous win the 12-round bout – Boxing news
Les Sherrington, the former PABA super middleweight champion, successfully nailed Oscar Daniel Veliz, the former South American middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout via unanimous decision and grasped the vacant World Boxing Federation and vacant IBF
Australasian super middleweight titles.
The bout was promoted and organised by Joe Pennisi and the ring for the Friday night pay-per-view was stretched at Murray Basketball Stadium situated in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The dual championship bout was on aired on March 9, 2012.
Les, who recently joined hands with a world class trainer Brendon Smith, put forth the boxing fans a great show and took on Oscar easily. During the whole skirmish, Les, infamous as the ‘Lock & Load’, completely overshadowed the Argentinean Oscar.
Les from the very beginning had the odds in his favour. The only aspect that worried the critics a bit was Oscar’s hefty experience. Les was entering in his career’s 34th bout. He has won a total 27 bouts and came out victorious in 17 bouts via knockout.
In addition, the 29-year-old Aussie was coming from a first round demoralising total knockout lose against Kashif Mumtaz.
Oscar, on the other hand, was entering the ring for the 50th time. He has won a total 29 bouts and just five by knockout. Daniel, widely known as ‘Escopeta’, has lost a whopping 18 battles, an aspect that seriously tarnishes his appearance in front of any
opponent.
Les who underwent a strenuous 12-week sparring session under the supervision of Brendon was duly happy after the win since his training paid off.
Brendon, former Michael Kastidis trainer, said before the bout, “It’s the first time we’ve worked together and I’m excited about it. I believe he can do it. He’s had a big job over the past three months but I believe he’s in good shape and he can do the
job.”
Les entered the ring and started pummelling Oscar vehemently making him move into the defensive mode. While using the hometown, better knockout and win-loss ratio advantage, Sherrington outwitted Oscar’s each and every tactic and was able to intimidate him.
The tips and ideas of Brendon definitely came to fruition when Sherrington proudly displayed the apex titles on his shoulders after the bout. With this bout Les has collected his 28th win and is now the owner of World Boxing Federation and IBF Australasian
super middleweight titles.
The 33-year-old Oscar, on the contrary, has further tarnished his resume by adding one more loss and now has a total 18 losses in his account.
