Les Snead joins St. Louis Rams as the franchise’s new general manager – NFL News Update
After hectic months of planning, meetings and discussing the team’s prospects, St. Louis Rams have finally found a new general manager for the franchise.
The team management formally announced on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, that Les Snead, who was serving as the director of player personnel at Atlanta Falcons, has been appointed as Rams’ new general manager.
Rams’ executive vice president of football operations and chief operating officer, Kevin Demoff, said that Snead’s unique scouting methods would certainly help the franchise in hunting new talented faces for the upcoming seasons.
He said:
“Les Snead is a rising personnel star whose passion for scouting and innovation differentiated him throughout the search process.”
Snead will handle all the football related operations of the franchise, which will include hiring and firing of players, dealing with their contracts and other related matters.
He will collaborate with head coach, Jeff Fisher, in all the matters, but will reserve the final decision making right.
Demoff further said about Snead:
“His vision for making the Rams a sustained winner resonated with our entire organisation and the energy and leadership he brings to our building is infectious.”
Demoff added:
“He has spent 15 years preparing for this opportunity and we are confident he will deliver the results our organisation and fans deserve.”
Snead’s appointment has come after some drastic measures taken by Rams’ management following a pathetic National Football League (NFL) season.
Rams could only win two games in the regular season and finished after being placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) West division.
As a result, the then head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, and general manager, Billy Devaney, were fired before completing their decided tenure at the franchise.
Former Tennessee Titans coach, Jeff Fisher, was appointed as the new head coach and now Snead has replaced Billy.
Interestingly, Billy was also serving Atlanta Falcons before being appointed as Rams’ general manager.
Demoff was impressed with the way the operations were run in Atlanta and said that there is nothing wrong in hiring the second general manager from the same franchise.
Meanwhile, Snead has said that he loves the challenge of revamping the Rams’ image. He said:
“We're going to have a purpose, and then we're going to go thrive.”
The Rams are now going to turn their attention towards the upcoming NFL drafts and Snead is expected to spend a lot of time with Fisher in the coming days to chalk out a plan for the drafts.
