Lesia Tsurenko achieves a flawless victory against Julia Glushko in quarterfinal – Slovak Open 2011
Meeting for the first time, the top seeded Ukrainian; Lesia Tsurenko breezed past seventh seeded Israeli Julia Glushko in the quarterfinal of the Slovak Open.
The two players took up the gauntlet on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia. After just forty five minutes, the top seeded Ukrainian had bagged both the sets by ousting the seventh seeded
Israeli in straight sets of 6-1, 6-0 on Friday the 18th of November 2011.
Tsurenko won the toss and both the players traded in breaks during the first two games to place themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1. However, she then held her serve in the third round by smashing a backhand winner. She targeted
eighty eight percent of her first serves on target and achieved a sixty one percent of her first service points in the opening set.
In the next second Glushko’s accuracy faltered and she committed a double fault on her second serve endorsing a crucial break to her adversary. Her return game was below the par and she was not able to make a considerable return.
Her defence was shaky and she only saved forty five percent of her breakpoints. Moreover, she capitalized on only one breakpoint in the entire set.
On the contrary, the top seed had immaculate accuracy on her serve and struck no double faults, though she didn’t smash any aces either. Although, the Ukrainian had bagged an exceptional sixty two percent of her total service points,
she had a better return which assisted her in accomplishing a grandiose eighty percent win of her total return points in the initial round of the match.
Moreover, she was able to save a fifty percent of her breakpoints and even capitalized on six breakpoints won out of the eleven. Hence, the top seed won the initial round because of a better style and technique. She bagged the
opening set with a bread stick victory to go one up in the match.
During the second set the Israeli had completely given hope and did not even try to make an effort. On the contrary, Tsurenko took a notch higher in her service game and managed to bag an eighty percent of her total service points.
In addition, she not only held her service games but also bagged her opponent’s service games. Tsurenko not only had an exceptional service game but also a good return which allowed her to accomplish an amazing sixty five percent
of her total return points.
Amidst the second set, the Ukrainian strengthened her defence and did not setup a single breakpoint opportunity for her adversary and instead capitalized on three breakpoints won.
The top seeded Ukrainian sealed her victory of the set by clogging twice as many points as her adversary’s and reserved a spot in the semi final of the event where she will be facing unseeded Slovakian Lenka Jurikova.
