Lesia Tsurenko blasts past Kristina Kucova in the second round qualifiers – e-Boks Open 2012
Second round qualifiers for the e-Boks Open were played on Sunday and the top seed wildcard Ukrainian, Lesia Tsurenko, clobbered her way to victory by disposing of the 21-year-old unseeded Slovakian, Kristina Kucova. Tsurenko took
merely 51 minutes to register her straight sets, victory at 6-2, 6-0, to reach the qualifying competition of the event.
Being a part of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International swing, the competition was played on the indoor hard courts of Farum, Denmark. 22-year-old Tsurenko had no real trouble in hunting down her bleak opponent and spared
just two games in the entire matchup for her. She was absolutely belligerent throughout the competition and gave no chances to her opponent to have an impact on the game.
The top seed Ukrainian belted 67 per cent of her first serve on target, winning 18 out of 24 points on it and breaking her opponent six out of nine times en route to victory. Kucova could barely register just one break point in
the entire matchup and dropped 10 out of her 19 first serve points to her opponent to finish on the losing side in the end.
Tsurenko registered two successive serve breaks in the third and fifth games of the opener to lead 4-1. Kucova came up with her only break points of the day in the sixth game, only to be broken in the very next game to fall back
at 2-5. The top seed served out of the first set to get one up in the contest.
Momentum kept swinging towards the Ukrainian’s side in the next set and she went on for a six-game killing spree to dismantle Kucova. Tsurenko broke her opponent in her every single serve game, striking three break points on the
trot to rocket away to victory with a bagel at 6-0.
Tsurenko will take on the unseeded Russian opponent, Anna Chakvetadze, in the next encounter to book a place in the main draw of the e-Bok Open. Chakvetadze registered her surprise victory over the eighth seed German opponent,
Sarah Gronert, outplaying her in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, to reach the qualifying competition.
25-year-old Russian took just 68 minutes of play to wrap up victory in style, moving a step closer to enter the main rounds of the tournament. She cashed in all of her five break points, while suffering just two serve breaks from
her opponent en route to victory.
