Lesia Tsurenko flogs Daria Gavrilova
in 2nd qualifying round – Kremlin Cup 2011
Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko got the best of Russian Daria Gavrilova in the second qualifying round of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The two contenders took up the swords on indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium, Moscow. After a lengthy
one hour and fifty three minutes the unseeded Ukrainian Tsurenko got the better of the Russian Gavrilova in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday the 16th of October.
After winning the service toss first to initiate the opening round was Gavrilova, who was a lower ranked player in comparison to the Ukrainian and she got off to an appalling start as she was unable to hold her first game. Mean
while, Tsurenko not only capitalized on the breakpoint but also held her serve to take the lead on the scoreboard at 2-0.
During the third game Gavrilova held her serve and then went on to breaking her adversary which resulted in the score levelling at 2-2 by the end of the fourth game. The players then again held serve on alternate service games
and once more the score was tied at 3-3 b y the end of the sixth game. Amidst the seventh and the eight game Gavrilova made a hold of serve and then broke her adversary for the second time to take a mini lead of 5-3.
However, Tsurenko was not going to let her adversary score against her and was quick to break back immediately in the following game and with a hold of serve she brought the score to even terms at 5-5 by the end of the tenth game.
During the last two games Tsurenko got lucky as she capitalized from the third breakpoint and then held her serve to steal away the opening set with a 7-5 victory.
The second was also initiated by Gavrilova and once more she was unable to hold her service game. On the contrary, Tsurenko not only benefitted from the break but also held her serve to commence the scoreboard with a 2-0 mini lead.
The two players won on alternate games and the score had progressed to a 3-1 with the Ukrainian leading the match.
In the fifth and the sixth game, both the players broke each other back-to-back and by the end of the seventh game the score had further shifted to a 4-3 with the Ukrainian leading the game. Eventually the score was brought to
gridlock by the end of the eighth game as Gavrilova broke Tsurenko.  The last two games proved extremely lucky for Tsurenko as she also capitalized from a break immediately in the following game and then as she held her serve, she clogged the second set and
the match.
