I'm travelling to mexico by car from southern california on a holiday weekend and like everyone knows, the border traffic is HORRENDOUS!!!! Does anyone know of another U.S/Mexico border both going into Mexico and then coming back into the U.S that is less congested than than main one?

  1. In this time of year?

    Forget about it.

Right now I was listening to the radio and they were saying that in San Ysidro there are 700 cars in line and in Otay 350. Its awful.

On the 24th. usually is less crowded since people are celebrating at home. And on the 25th, it can also be easier. Beginning on the 26th. the long lines are back again, since everyone wants to take advantage of the after Christmas specials. Its really a drag, I don't cross on this days, I even manage to buy the Christmas presents on October and November, before Thanksgiving, because after that day it becomes intolerable.

Some people go to the Tecate Border Crossing but lately is also very congested.

What's happening is that since September 11th. crossing the border is a quest for patience, since its very sloooow and even if you think you'll cross fast because there are only like 70 cars in line, it can take you up to an hour.

I suggest you arm your self with patience and prepare to wait for a while.

  2. Looks like Tecate is better right now. Just be patient and send messages to our government and that of Mexico that we are not pleased...all they do is talk. In mid-summer we should insist that they sit in a van with no AC and a couple of kids...maybe they would be more reasonable about new border crossings.
