I want to settle in Australia soon, although I know Australians are friendly, I still like to know if people in Melbourne are less racist than people in Sydney towards foreigners particularly towards Arabs.

  1. I've lived in both cities and in my personal opinion, Melbourne was a much more comfortable city to live in... and more accepting towards foreigners.

It's a decision that only you can make, but knowing what I know now,  I would have chosen Melbourne first off.

There are going to be rude people or racist people no matter where you go, but in general...  I much prefer Melbourne.

  2. Most australians will accept you no matter what your race or colour is ... It depends to us , more on your character.....

If you're a decent person you will find we will take to you like a duck to water .. IF HOWEVER you come here and start condemning our life style and demand we change to how you want us to be .. THEN you will have problems ... BUT please don't think it's a race issue .. consider the English we have called WHINGING POMS  because they have whined so much ( NB NOT ALL POMS ARE WHINGERS)

    I love Melbourne.

EDIT .. I just read where somebody has called your bluff and thinks you're an arab trying to cause trouble .. HEY YOU COULD BE ANYBODY TRYING TO CAUSE TROUBLE .. so I appeal to all Aussies to Ignore you.

  3. Melbourne is better all round against Sydney. Melbourne offers a more welcoming and accepting feel from day one. For answers regarding the Arabic cultures just take a ride in one of Melbourne's many Arabic taxis. Or drive one. Those dudes see hear and go through it all.

  4. well im not sure about sydney,

i live in melbourne. we have a lot of asians here. and to tell you the truth we do bag them a lot.

um but ive never really seen any other foreigners getting bagged or anything..

australians in general i think arn't very racist at all.

  5. To a certain extent - I agree with JJ.

Your expression "I still like to know if people in Melbourne are less racist than people in Sydney" means that you already decided that both cities are racist - just which one is more racist than the other.

Neither cities is racist. It is a small number of people in BOTH cities that have that attitude.

I have been in Australia for over 35 years and I have never expereinced any racist attitude towards me anywhere.

    Cheers

  6. We all basically live like Bedouins that live in the desert. We live in constant fear that spiders, snakes and other wildlife are going to poison us...

We do not have any cars here, and the weather is very dry. In summer we have to were masks to protect us from the heat and the UV rays. For food, we have nice kangaroo's and Koala's that we can BBQ...It's the best life ever!

So please come and visit - you do not have to bring any clothes with you, we like to hunt naked...

  7. i live in vic country and i think melbourne is so much better then sydney. there are some lovely people.

i dont think its the city your in , just every now and then u will run into rude people weather they are racist or not.

ur not the only one out there

  8. You have already decided that both Sydney and Melbourne are racists cities (you just need to know which is less racists).  The definition in one dictionary of a racists is as follows  "hatred or intolerance of another race or other races."  Aren't you the racists by not being tolerant of Australians?  Remember Sydney and Melbourne are populated by people whose ancestry can be traced around the globe and include those with Arabian heritage. I am not racist I am just sick of being prejudged by people who have no idea how we live.

  9. I do not think you should move to Australia.

Sydney is full of foreigners, so not sure what you mean. The most racist are Arabic.

Arabs have done very well in Australia, the previous Victorian Premier was arabic and the governor of NSW is arabic. An Australian arab even became head of Ford Motor Company for a while. Crazy John was a well loved and very successful businessman, just another example. Plus lets not forget Aussie John Symond who saves us:). The level of success Arabs in Australia enjoyed would not happen if there was in fact racism.

However there is resentment to a certain section of the lebanese community due to their disrespect to laws and norms, the horrific race based crimes they committed and their relunctance as a group to address THEIR racism. In fact they are probably the most racist group in Sydney and the race based crimes the worst ever committed in Australia bar the horrific treatment of aborigines.. I must admit that even Coptic christians are very racist and many that are 4th generation Australian still will not marry a non-arab. Arabs tend to be very racist toward people of black skin with many refusing them entry into their own homes even if of the same religous faith.

So some are not tolerated, nor should they be, that is racist itself to turn a blind eye to unsocial/illegal behaviour because of race.

So not aware of any racism toward Arabs in Sydney at all, but very much aware of how racist Arabs are. I guess the reason for them coming to Australia was a lack of tolerance in Arabic states toward their beliefs and many bring their prejudice with them when they immigrate. Little wonder there is so much conflict in the ME.

So in summary if you want to be Australian and succeed you can live anywhere. Australians are very receptive to those that integrate well. If you want to live in an Arabic ghetto with only only foot in Australia while the only stays rooted in the past you may experience some resentment. If you want accuse Australians of being racist because they do not tolerate bad behavour then please stay at home. The choice is really yours but seeing you are already crying over something that is really a problem of your race's own doing then I suggest you will make a poor migrant.

Just remember, Arabs are caucasian so other Australians cannot easily identify an Arab unless they choose to stand out culturally negative ways or misbehave. Choice is yours as I said.

edit...just read you actually already live in Melbourne. so you are just another arab out to incite race hatred.
