Question:

Lesson plan for Ecology summer camp?

My friend's sister is teaching an ecology class at a local summer camp. The kids range in age from about 8 to 13, and seem to have no interest in the subject matter of the course they signed up for (no idea why they signed up in the first place... lol)

Any ideas that the kids might enjoy? Keeping in mind the range of ages, and preferably having to do with ecology...

  1. How about you each go around talking about which animals they like? The as the teachers your friends sister finds a way to connect how (for instance) that students animal would live in the current location you are at. And if he was here how would he survive and the things that will affect his survival. Take them to a river or something and show them how to catch little critters if she has knowledge in Aquatics.

Or play a game where half the students are lets say wolves (or any other type of predator) while the other half or majority is the deer population. The wolves eat 3 deers per month lets say and they breed a certain number. (I hope you get the idea), you just have to fiddle around with the numbers to show how nature stabalizes life. (if you want you can also bring in the food/resources portion in this)

    Hope it helped
