The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Anderlecht and Olympiakos were the only teams to win their games on Tuesday’s Champions League Match Day 4 games and should look to secure a place in the knockout stages
On Match Day 4 (Tuesday, November 6, 2012) of the UEFA Champions League group stages, there were only three teams that were able to register wins out of eight games played between teams of Groups A, B, C and D.
And, a lot of lessons have been drawn following these side’s victories in their respective games.
Paris Saint-Germain
Group A
Thanks to another dominating display by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Blaise-Matuidi-c7681, Jeremy
Menez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guillaume-Hoarau-c15332 respectively.
Surprisingly, the Swede was unable to register his name on the score-sheet which could have added more gloss to an already dominating scoreline.
In the game against Zagreb, Carlo Ancelotti chose to use Ibrahimovic as a playmaker just behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeremy-Menez-c18345. Despite being put in an unfamiliar role, the former Ajax man did not disappoint at all and it was his brilliantly executed
passes that resulted in all four goals.
Once again, the Scandinavian has proved himself to be one of the most adaptable and entertaining offensive players in Europe which means that any team that plays PSG in the knockout phases of the competition, will have its work cut out if it crosses paths
with an in-form Ibra.
With Dynamo Kiev holding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 to a 0-0 draw, Paris Saint-Germain have a great chance of topping the group and in turn, avoid facing a strong team in the initial phases of the knockouts.
Olympiakos
Group B
The Greek giants had to thanks http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-c40298 to a 3-1 win over Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier Herault. Although Younes Belhanda’s penalty in the 67th minute levelled
the scores, Montpellier Herault were simply unable to do anything about an adventurous Olympiakos side that could have added more gloss to the scoreline had they been more clinical in front of goal.
As things stand, Schalke are on top of Group B with eight points, followed by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in second who have amassed seven points. Olympiakos trail the English outfit by just one point so positive results in their last two games could see them vying for a place
in the last 16 of the competition.
Anderlecht
Group C
The game between Anderlecht and Zenit Saint Petersburg was to be a race for either a second place in the standings or for a place in the Europa League. And, ahead of this game, many expected the Russian Premier League rich boys to register a convincing away
win over the Belgian Jupiler League side.
Instead, fans of European football witnessed one of the biggest upsets of Match Day four as the Belgians managed to nick all three points against a side that spent so much money on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Axel-Witsel-c7029 in order to be a force to be reckoned with in the Champions
League.
Dieudonne Mbokani scored the only goal of the game which puts Anderlecht in third place in the league standings with four points and just one point behind second-placed AC Milan who drew with league leaders Malaga at home.
The Belgians now have a great chance of qualifying for the knockout phases if they manage to get positive results in their remaining two games against Malaga and AC Milan.
