Lester Hudson leaves Cleveland Cavaliers; Lands at the Memphis Grizzlies - NBA Update
Lester Hudson 10 days contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers matured last Wednesday, and despite his desire to continue, the Cavs have not given him an extension. Their loss is however Memphis Grizzlies gain. The Western Conference
giants have signed Hudson for the remainder of the season.
Hudson, 27 would have never thought that fate could be so kind on him. Early this year, he was playing for Qingdao DoubleStar in China. He got his breakthrough in the mainstream basketball when Cavs signed him for the 1st
of two 10 days contract on March 30th, 2012.
After posting 12 and 9 points respectively in the 1st two games he gained confidence and was on song netting 23 points against Toronto Raptors on April 6th and scored 26 against New Jersey Nets on April 8th.
He boarded the Cavs wagon when they were struggling without their key players with rookie Kyrie Irving was sidelined due to sprained right shoulder and Anthony Parker was healing a bruised sternum. Naturally the team lacked the
offensive depth and Hudson capitalized on the opportunity at hand.
The 6ft 3 in guard was pivotal in taking the game against the New Jersey into overtime. Similarly on April 11th, he netted 19 against the Indiana Pacers, but like in the game against the Nets, the Cavs lost out in extra
period.
At the end of his contract, he couldn’t keep up his performances as he netted 6 against Orlando Magic and 7 against Detroit Pistons in the past week. Overall though, he played solidly averaging 12.7 points, 2.7 assists and 3.5
boards in 13 games.
Hudson sounded contended with his brief tenure with Cavs in a tweet;
"Had a great run with Cavs hopefully my next stop will b much better!!!!”
He certainly did get much better than he hoped for.
The linkup with the Grizzlies is a huge development for Hudson as he will be able to participate in the playoffs. The grizzlies have pulled off the move after Gilbert Arenas’ injury. The veteran sharpshooter has torn a ligament
on his finger of right hand and the franchise will use Hudson option to strengthen their back court.
