Just a hypothetical question. If Obama got elected do you think he would be able to get any of his bills through or make any real progress?

He seems like a wuss, I can't picture him getting anything done.

  1. He will make a difference! He has worked hard to get where he is at now

  2. If Obama gets elected, he will probably make bunches of progress in jacking up taxes to points of insanity! (Don't get me wrong, I don't like Mccain either)

  3. nope. I think he doesnt have a clue what he is doing, and would pass a bunch of dumb laws. or at least try to.

  4. He won't be doing anything for the first four years besides cleaning up the mess that is currently going on. During the second four years yeah I can see him making some progress.

  5. He has already gotten his bills through...he has put forward 896 bills and cosponsored 1096 additional bills. Just to let you know, Presidents don't put forth legislation, that would be the job of a senator.

  6. sadly with a democratic house and senate yes.. that is what is so scary...

  7. nothing wrong with compromise.

we've tried it long enough with the current admins macho BS and bravado that has basically alienated us from the world.

i feel as Obama showed in his acceptance speech is he will be pushed only so far then he pushes back.

I think people forget he has conquered Chicago politics, Washington in comparison is a picnic.

  8. Perhaps, with a democratic house and senate it is possible.

  9. i second that

  10. I completely agree. I just said the other day that Obama seems like the type of guy that you could intimidate, step on/walk all over and completely brush off.

He seems to interested in finding compromise instead of taking a stand.

  11. he wont get anything done

    McCain 08

  12. he talks but he only says what people want to hear him say, like all politicians they are in it for themselveses and family

  13. Well, first of all I think people need to realize that as president, it's not going to be his job to make laws. he can support bills, but the creation and voting of bills is the job of our castrated legislature.

If Obama is smart, and if congress grows balls, he will return the focus of lawmaking to congress.  Any plans or bills he mentions in the campaign aren't his, they're congress'.

As president his job will be a diplomat, a figurehead, and the Commander in Chief. The most important of those jobs, in my opinion, is going to be diplomat. We need Obama to heal the damage Bush' foreign policy has done to our international image. He needs to make smart choices about how we deal with Russia, the Middle East, and China. He needs to convince both parties of our legislature to work together and fix the manifold problems that plague us at this time.

So to more directly address your question, I do think he will be effective at getting both parties to work together and do their jobs in the legislature, and I think he has already shown that he is a fine Diplomat.

In foreign policy experience, he has struck gold in choosing Biden as his VP, as Biden has all of the experience he lacks in that arena.

  14. He hasn't written any bills in 3 years in the senate because he's been campaigning for two of them.

If the past three years is an indication, if he were to be elected, he'd be president for a year and then start campaigning for UN Secretary General.

He's never managed a shoe store, let alone a country.

    McCain & SarahCuda '08!!!!

  15. Hed cower in a corner

  16. why bc hes not a hating war monger?

  17. Yes, I think he would get plenty done.

  18. I agree. He will whine and cry and pass the buck. 3 1/2 years into his term it will still be all Bush's fault.

  19. If the Democrats make significant gains in Congress, they could pass whatever they wanted with ease.

  20. Taglo, do your research....

    The house majority is what?

The Senates majority versus the minorty party.

    Did we vote them out?

Stop asking unenlightening questions, it only shows your Haiku

  21. Yes, he'd likely have a fair amount of success.  He's an extremely skilled politician who is likely to have strong majorities in both houses of Congress.

  22. I'm SUPER excited for him to get elected!!! We need a "change"!!!

  23. He should get everything rammed thru....afterall, the Senate and House are controlled by his party!!!
