Let Sachin decide his future, insists Abdul Qadir – Cricket News Update
Legendary Pakistan leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 his time of retirement from international cricket.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 had earlier this week advised the Indian batting prodigy not to be at selectors' mercy, and quit international cricket on a high.
But Qadir said that Sachin Tendulkar has given a lot to international cricket and feels it is only the Indian veteran who has the right to decide about his future.
"I respect what http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 is an exception as he is in a different league,” the 56-year-old leg-break bowler told PTI Bhasha from Pakistan. “He’s like the 'Kohinoor of World Cricket'. He should have the right to decide about his future," he insisted.
Little batting maestro, who had made his international debut at the age of 16, back in 1989, is still an integral part of the Indian contingent in Tests as well as in ODIs. With almost 34000 runs under his belt, and hundred centuries in his name, there is no other batsman in the contemporary cricket who comes closer to the stats of the magical player.
The veteran however came under criticism after struggling against full-length deliveries during the recently concluded Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, in which he could manage to score 17, 27 and 19 runs. Many believe age has started catching up with the 39-year-old and he should now quit international cricket or get ready to be thrown out of the national set up.
But Qadir said that Tendulkar has contributed a lot to the game and does not deserve such criticism, adding that the veteran will not delay retirement once he would realize there is no more cricket left in him.
"Sachin has contributed a lot to the game. A talent like him comes once in a generation,” said the 56-year-old leg-spinner, who was hit by Tendulkar for four sixes during an exhibition one-day match in 1989.
“He’s patriotic and the day he realizes that he can't contribute to Indian cricket, he will retire. His love for cricket and commitment towards country is unquestionable. People should not form an opinion on the basis of couple of failures. No one can make century in every innings," Qadir concluded.
