Former world cup winning captain of India, Kapil Dev is the latest to speak in the favour of master blaster http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 over his much debated retirement.
Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement has been the hot topic in the media, as well as cricketing circles over the past couple of months. The batting prodigy of India, who has been stuck on 99 centuries since March last year, is going through a lean patch these days,
especially in one day internationals.
The master blaster averages hardly 20 in the ongoing one-day Commonwealth Bank series where he has scored a tally of 143 runs from seven matches he has played in, with a highest score of 48. Following his current dip in form, there have been growing calls
for his retirement from at least one day cricket.
What added fuel to the already raging fire, was the axe of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 last week. After Ponting’s axe cricket pundits feared that Sachin might also face the same fate, and started suggesting that the Little Maestro should
decide on his future as soon as possible or else be ready for the axe.
Whilst some are asking Sachin to plan his retirement, there are those who have been pushing the Indian selectors to show the same courage as their Australian counterparts, and show the veteran the door.
But Kapil Dev said that it should not be the board or selectors deciding Sachin’s future. Speaking to media reporters on Thursday, the legendary Indian all-rounder said that there is no fixed age for a cricketer to retire, so let Tendulkar decide for himself
when to bid farewell to the game.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Kapil said while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Jayasuriya-c2567 went on to play till the age of 42.
"Sachin has served the country well, even though he is nearing 40," said Kapil on the sidelines of the opening of a gymnasium. "As long as a player performs well, there are no complaints, it is only when the performance takes a dip, questions are being asked,"
he said.
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 captain quoted Ravi Shastri and Sanath Jayasuriya as two extreme examples with the former retiring just at the age of 29 while the Sri Lankan went on to play till the age of 42.
