I got kind of angry under my other name as MM, all I am asking is if I'm 1/16 Spanish and 1/16 Italian, does it count, am I still part Spanish and Italian, people tell me I don't have enough blood to be either one.

  1. Like Shirley T. says--we are all a mutt in the United States. Every one of our citizens' ancestors come from other countries (that is why  the US is called a "melting pot"), so we are all the sum of our collective ancestors original home. White supremacists aside, there are no "PURE 100% white Americans."  My own ancestry reads like an atlas--I am Pennsylvania Dutch, Irish, English, Native American (Cherokee--the nosebleed I had the other day probably kicked me out of the tribe), a "pinch of French", and good old US of A. I'm proud of every bit of it, too--as you should be.

Your 1/16 this or that is like my Cherokee. You can honestly say you have Hispanic ancestry and be proud of it, but it is the sum of all these ancestors who make up what we are today--what we look like, why we are fair-skinned/dark-skinned, have curly or straight hair, green eyes or blue, etc.

  2. It depends on the purpose of the question. If you just want an answer for the question "What are you?" then saying "I'm a little Spanish and Italian" is fair. If you're trying to get some sort of membership or apply for a scholarship or whatever, then it probably isn't enough to qualify you. Each is 6.25% of you - it's up to you how significant that is to you personally.

  3. You definitely are part Italian, part Spanish, and part of whatever else the other 7/8ths of your ancestry holds, Obviously you are not of Spanish or Italian nationality, you cannot call yourself Spanish or Italian, unless you go to live there and take out citizenship of the country, like everyone else, you are the nationality of the country you were born in, or the country of your adoption, but you do have a heritage which includes Spanish and Italian.

  4. Yes.  Your are part Spanish and part Italian.  You are also part whatever else the other 14/16 is.

  5. Ignore what stupid people say.  YOu are part of all your ancestors.  If you are an American citizen then your nationality is American but in your ethnic or ancestral heritage you can be like me, a mutt.  All of your ancestral heritage counts.  So tell anyone that says it doesnt to drop dead.
