Let talk about Thai politics? ?

Are you for or against Mr. Taksin Chinnawatra, his supporter (Samak Sutornravaj) and their policies in general?

In a general picture, as Thailand has been developed economically the middle class then expanded and become more and more sophisticated. Once the middleclass got richer and richer, it is unavoidable that the society will produce someone such as Taksin, who eventually will think that the only way for any enterprise to go on fighting bureaucrat corruptions, and therefore protecting the enterprises' interest is by taking the state power, of which he did.

Taksin will not be the last of this category, although I cannot name anyone of the business conglomerate who will eventually come up volunteering for the job of running the country, but subsequently the history will produce one.

In short, Taksin is a product of the socio-economic developments of Thailand. He represents successful entrepreneurial class who decides the only way forward is to take the control of the state power. He will not be the last one. The fact that he bent the laws to accommodate his businesses is quite understandable; "Bloody well, since he did what he did for his own sake!" That's what he represents consciously or unconsciously. He doesn't think, or know, of what he did was illegal or wrong or not, because in his mind, he already have changed the laws so he couldn't possibly be broken them??!! Right? Wrong, the courts ruled by the spirit of the laws and not by the letters of the laws. This may still puzzle Taksin to this day. Right or Wrong? I don't know.

My understanding is this is only the beginning.

The Thai society learns both ways. The rich and upper middle class learn that taking state power isn't simple and holding on to the power is harder than achieving it.

The society should also learn that the rich does, in all senses, represent the rich.

I would say I am for Thaksin but for the wrong reason, since I do not think he is doing well overall for the Country, there are pros and cons.

Pros

As a Road user he is good for me, more roads

Big improvement in the sewer systems.

Cons

Does not really tackle the corruption within all departments

Police

Teaching

Planning

Housing

Financial constraints he is more into getting mega projects and the corruption that goes with that than balancing the books

Good For me when Taksin was here it was 75 baht to GBP Interim government did well.

We need to tackle the rail infrastructure, more public buses, more taxes for fuel and subsides the public transportation.

I know alot of middle class like their own cars but the centre of Bangkok cannot sustain too man cars, we do not need more car parks just better PUBLIC transportation. And cheaper

Taksin may have been corrupt but he help a lot of the rural poor and he built modern infrastructure.  Samak is no Taksin

I livein SE Asia and also in Thailand. He and his Party TRT made a lot of acts regarding to visa laws which made it more and more difficult to stay in Thailand as a foreigner. So he made a policy against foreigners.

Now he try to get asylum exactly from this people. I think, usually nothing more to say...

I am an American who up until several of years ago spent considerable amount of time training with the Royal Thai Marine Corps in Thailand year after year most of the time spent at Sameson Chonburi. As an outsider who has had the opportunity also spend time in other countries would have to say that Mr. Taksin has made a positive impact upon Thailand.

Having worked with the Armed Forces of Thailand I can say that he has made considerable gains in reducing drug trafficking that is probably one of Thailand’s biggest threats as demonstrated in countries such as Mexico. He has also curbed allot of the under aged  workers envolved in illicit acts. The list of his accomplishments goes on and on.

The original choice to have Taksin as their leader was a wise one as he has already demonstrated his business savvy in his own personal endeavors. Additionally, although accused by many for “enreaching himself” simply is not logical since he unlike his accusers he is already enreached far more than many.

The bottom line is in my humble opinion Mr. Taksin has deprived allot of folks in Thailand that were making money from illicit activities therefore had to go in their eyes.

In closeing ,Thailand is a wonderful country ruled by perhaps one of the greatest Kings in history.
