Let the Brazilian Grand Prix begin!
With just two races remaining in the 2010 season, it seems that this has been one of the most dramatic, exciting and unpredictable season in the history of the sport. One has to admit that the new venues and points system has definitely spiced things up
and there are still 5 contenders chasing the drivers’ title with just 2 races left in the season.
The inaugural race at the Korean International circuit last week was off the hook as the track was slippery as h**l and the drivers had to drive on a wet track to complete the race after a handful of safety car periods and a restart. However, the Red Bulls
were vitally struggling as Mark Webber retired around the 20 lap marker after slipping of the track and crashing into the side wall. His teammate, on the other hand, retired due to a mechanical failure around the 47th lap.
Sebastian Vettel was leading the race and it seemed that he would snatch the lead from his teammate Mark Webber but things turned out differently. Fernando Alonso went on to finish the race in 1st place instead and took the lead from Mark Webber.
Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa finished in 2nd and 3rd places respectively and now because of this unfortunate result, the championship run is on once again for Lewis Hamilton.
Lewis is currently in 3rd place just 21 points behind the championship leader Fernando Alonso while Sebastian Vettel is in 4th place 25 points adrift. Mark Webber is currently in 2nd place just 11 points behind Fernando and
it seems that Jenson Button is out of the championship run as he is 42 points adrift but still claims that he has a chance of winning the title even though it is nearly impossible.
With just 2 races remaining, a maximum of 50 points can be obtained and since Jenson is 42 points behind the leader, he can only win if the top 4 drivers retire in at least one race and Button wins that race. That is nearly impossible and it seems that Button
will have to help his teammate if he wants to keep the title within his team.
The Brazilian grand prix is set to take place at the legendary Interlagos circuit and the grand prix will begin tomorrow as the Friday practice sessions will take place. There were many rumours that Red Bull will also try and apply a one-man strategy since
McLaren is expected to walk the same lines while Ferrari has already been applying it since the German Grand prix where Felipe Massa let his teammate Fernando Alonso pass on purposely to secure the maximum points for the Spaniard.
One has to admit that Ferrari’s strategy has paid off vitally as no one even dreamed that Fernando Alonso could come from the very tail end and finish on top of the top 4 drivers in the drivers’ standings.
McLaren has been a bit sloppy as compared to the Red bulls but it seems that they are getting a hold of their car now and will definitely challenge the Red Bulls and Ferraris. If Jenson Button agrees to help his teammate Lewis Hamilton in the final two grand
prix, Lewis will definitely have a very good chance of winning the title.
It would be interesting to see what the top three drivers come up with for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Many critics are expecting that the championship race might come to an end this week. However, it is not going to be as easy as it looks since the top 3
teams are going to throw everything including the sink to achieve the ultimate goal i.e. drivers’ title.
