Let the People’s Finals begin: Miami Heat all set to take on Oklahoma City Thunder in NBA Finals (Part 1)
The Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday and with the win, secured a berth in the NBA Finals. The Miami-Boston series was one that will go down in the annals of history as
one of the closest and most competitive.
Now, on Tuesday night, Miami open their NBA championship bid against a team that has surprised the whole league. Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the defending champions Dallas Mavericks 4-0, then beat the Los Angeles Lakers 4-1,
and finally snapped a 20 game winning streak of the power houses San Antonio Spurs to book a place in the NBA Finals.
Both teams have a lot to play for. Miami will once again attempt to win an NBA championship. This is their 2nd Finals appearance in as many years, since the big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh were
brought together in South Beach.
They promised multiple rings but have failed to live up to their word till now. LeBron James has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the NBA. He is a scoring champion, has three MVP titles under his belt, is a regular
All-Star starter and has broken numerous individual performance records.
The only thing that he has left to accomplish is an NBA championship. And that is the most important of all.
Oklahoma City have their own reasons to be hungry for an NBA crown. In four seasons, they have gradually built their team and climbed the Western Conference table. They were against teams like Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs
and Dallas Mavericks, and they have beaten them all to reach the top and be in the NBA Finals.
Last year, they had lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals. This year, they have gone one better and are aiming to go all the way.
Both teams have competed against each other twice in the regular season, with both winning on their home court. Thunder won 103-87 on March 25th but Miami returned the favour with a 98-93 victory on their home court
on April 4th. Both Heat and OKC are aggressive teams who run the court and are great in transitions and fast breaks. They also rely heavily on points from within the paint.
Miami has LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh as their three main players. James has been having one of the best post seasons of his career, single handedly winning crucial games for the Heat. Wade is a great finisher, and
the fourth quarter did belong to him in many of the Heat’s victories this post season.
