Let the seniors make their own decisions on retirement, says Sourav Ganguly – Cricket News Update
Former Indian captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746, has stated that the senior members of the team should not be forced to retire from International cricket, as it is not the right time to revamp the side.
Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 is currently under immense pressure after a disastrous tour to England. The Poms not only hammered the tourists 4-0 in the longest version of the game but also won the One Day International (ODI) series comprehensively by a margin of the three
matches.
Apart from Rahul Dravid, who emerged as India highest run-getter with 461, none of the Indians could manage to come up with a notable performance. While the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar collected 273 runs in four games against the Poms, Laxman gathered
only 182 during his visit to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
Following an ordinary show by almost the whole crew, many questions are being raised over the presence of senior players in the setup.
However, Ganguly is against the idea of putting veteran members out of the squad, saying that the decision about quitting the game should be left at the players’ disposal.
“Players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 should decide on their own when it comes to taking a call on quitting the game. The day their performance drops, they will leave on their own. Dravid and Laxman have already phased out from ODI
cricket. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 also plays very less,” said Ganguly, who was recently appointed as the Chairman of Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Technical Committee.
Although, the former skipper expressed satisfaction over the recent performance of young lads in the troop, he stated that there is no such player in the new lot who can replace the likes of Tendulkar, Laxman and Dravid.
“It is good to see youngsters perform so well in the shorter format but I am more worried about Tests. We haven't seen anyone who can challenge these seniors. Definitely, the time hasn't come to phase out seniors in Tests," added the former left-handed batsman
who served India in 113 Tests before leaving International cricket.
