Leta Lindley and Matt Plagmann, love at first tee
It is common practice to see couples working together. In offices, hospitals, or schools, spouses can end up in the same career field. Same goes for Hollywood and Celebrity couples. One thing one rarely finds is couples in sports playing the same game and
on the same team.
This is usually the case because in professional sports, women and men have separate teams. Like NBA and WNBA for basketball, and PGA and LPGA for golf. In the LPGA however, there is a couple that stays together and tees together. It’s none other than the
LPGA player Leta Lindley and her husband/caddie Matt Plagmann.
When Leta first saw Matt, she really didn’t think he would be her husband. Actually, the University of Arizona golfer thought he was a ‘jerk’ and she focused on being eligible for a tournament instead of Matt.
Matt does agree that he was the class clown type back then but as soon as they met he knew she was the one. As Plagmann sat down for an interview before the start of the Navistar Classic, he said that as soon as he saw Leta, he called his dad and told him
he’s met the girl he’s going to marry.
Matt being a good husband supports and advises his wife on course and off course. Being her caddie, as he carries her clubs on the course, he makes sure his wife does well on the field.
Sixteen years and two children later, their relationship is stronger than most American couples. A good sense of humour is significant for couples, who spend a lot of time together. The couple said that laughter is one of the things that really kept their
marriage the way it is.
"I had to be sure she'd make the tour before I married her," Plagmann, 39, said with an expressionless face."Yeah, well, people will think my first assessment of you was correct", she replied smiling. After their first meeting, Leta and Matt didn’t see each
other for a year. When they met again, something clicked and they’re happy it did.
In the Navistar Classic, Leta scored a two-over and a three under on round one and round two respectively. Lindley is arguably the most persistent golfer on the LPGA Tour. She tried over 300 times before she finally won a tournament. Her first victory came
in 2008 when she was triumphant in the 2008 Corning Classic.
During her struggles, Leta has still earned a lot. Matt alongside Leta has shown determination step by step on fairways around the World. Leta and Annika Sorenstam were on the same college team. Sorenstam is now one of the richest and most successful stars
on the LPGA circuit. Leta isn’t doing so badly either. During her long career, she has earned about $3 Million. That is quite an earning.
Lindley stated that she won’t be playing near her fifty’s like other women golfers. Lindley said that their children have really strengthened their marriage as well. Making sure she wasn’t too pre-occupied with her career, Leta knew she should have children
since time waits for no one. In 2003, Leta was competing as her first trimester completed but later realized that golf and pregnancy doesn’t really work together. She had son Cole Plagmann in 2003 and then daughter Reese two years later.
Managing two children and professional golf was hard, but Leta took on the challenge well. She said that after every childbirth she returned on tour with a new sense of passion for the game. Along with being a mother of two, Leta has a desirable record on
the tour. Turning pro in 1995, she is currently among the top 60 all-time LPGA money winners.
Leta really appreciates the support of her family and especially Matt, who she termed as her biggest ‘cheerleader’. She said that he has her best interests at heart and that in all the years they have been together, they might have argued only six times.
Overall, the couple is exemplary and their understanding is amazing. Merging golf with their personal lives, they surely have the potential to reach great heights.
